A land office to administer land in the southeastern portion of the Miss. Territory was created by an act of 1815 Mar. 3. The first office opened in Milledgeville, Ga. on 1817 Aug. 4. On 1818 Oct. 20 an office was established at Conecuh Court House in the Ala. Territory to administer land in the newly created territory. On 1819 June 1 the Milledgeville and Conecuh Court House offices were merged and moved to Cahaba in the Ala. Territory. The Cahaba Land Office administered the bulk of the land in the Ala. Black Belt region, an area of intense early growth. As new offices were opened the area administered by the Cahaba Land Office decreased in size. On 1856 June 15 the Cahaba Land Office was closed and its records were moved to the Greenville Land Office.
