James Inglis sat in the box at the Royal Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh and photographed performances at opening nights of the Wilson Barrett Company 's plays.

The Wilson Barrett Company was formed in 1938 in London. They moved to Edinburgh after the bombing of their London base. They performed plays and variety pieces. They played in Edinburgh and Glasgow and occasionally in Aberdeen. The company was active until 1955.
