Piedmont Publishing Company was formed in 1937, in Winston-Salem, N.C., with Gorgon Gray (1909-1982) as president, when he purcahsed newspapers The Daily Journal and The Winston-Salem Sentinel from Owen Moon (1872-1947). The Company published The Twin City Sentinel (afternoon), The Winston-Salem Journal (morning), The Journal and Sentinel (Sunday).
