A senior botanist at the University of California at Berkeley, Paul Clifford Hutchison traveled great distances from his California home in search of new plant species. Born in 1924, Hutchison specialized in cactus plant species, and took a great interest in the work of other botanists doing similar work. He took trips to the Caribbean in 1951 and Bolivia and Peru in 1964 to research South American cacti species. Hutchison passed away in 1997.
