Schieffelin family.

Jacob Schieffelin (1757-1835), New York merchant, landowner, and United Empire Loyalist, founded a wholesale drug business which bore the family name for more than a century.

He married Hannah Lawrence (1758-1838) of New York City, a poet and daughter of John Lawrence, a merchant and Quaker. Their son, Richard Lawrence Schieffelin (1801-1889) and grandson, George Richard Schieffelin (1836-1910) both practiced chancery law in New York.
