Manly Family.
Papers of Basil Manly, Sr. and Jr. Both served as Southern Baptist ministers and educators. Basil Manly, Sr. was co-founder of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and of the Alabama Historical Society. While serving at the Alabama State Baptist Convention, he wrote resolutions that would later lead to the formation of the Southern Baptist Convention in Augusta, Georgia. He was also influential in establishing an institution for the special training of ministers which later became Furman University. A graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary, Basil Manly, Jr. was a professor of Old Testament at Southern Seminary and, with his father, published The Baptist Psalmody.
