Initially an ice and lime business, the Shepherd family sold its limestone quarries, kilns, and wharves to the Rockland and Rockport Lime Company in early 1900, and became a store in Rockport, Me., that sold provisions to basically every other business in town, especially to the barges and schooners which carried the lime powder to other ports.
