Thompson, James L. (James Livingstone), 1832-1913.
Thompson was born in London, England and came to the U.S. at age 18. He studied medicine in Rush County, Ind. and Cincinnati, Ohio, and practiced in Rush County and Harrison, Ohio. During the Civil War he served as a surgeon with the 4th U.S. Colored Artillery and was medical director of Western Kentucky. In 1871 Thompson moved to Indianapolis and became the city's first eye specialist and taught at the Medical College of Indiana.
