Variant namesShip captain, of Cape Elizabeth, Me.; son of Capt. Winthrop Stanwood, originally of Gloucester, Mass.; became master of a packet at the age of 19 and began making trips from Portland, Me., to the West Indies; later became a farmer in Gorham, Me.
