WEED (Radio station : Rocky Mount, N.C.)

WEED was a general entertainment radio station established in 1933 by William Avera Wynne (born 1903) in Greenville, N.C. The station was relocated to Rocky Mount, Nash County, N.C., in 1934. In 1940 it affiliated with the National Broadcasting Company's (NBC) Blue Network which became the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) in 1945. In 1948 an FM station (WEED-FM) was added.

William Avera Wynne was also involved in the creation of WBAR radio station in Bartow, Fla., in 1952.
