Native of Laurens, S.C.; attended Laurens, S.C., public schools and gradauted in 1950 from Thomas Sanders High School; graduated from Allen University, Columbia, S.C., in 1953 with a BS in physical education; served in the United States Airborne Paratroopers, 1953-1956; received Masters from University of Indiana in 1957, directorate in 1960, and doctorate in 1966; began teaching at Allen University in 1957 and became head coach; served as department head, athletics director, and head track coach at Mississippi Valley State College, 1966; came to South Carolina State College (now South Carolina State University), Orangeburg, S.C., in 1968 and became athletics director in 1970; became Assistant Vice-President for Academic Administration at South Carolina State College, 1986; one of the founding fathers of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC); served as the first president of the MEAC Athletic Directors Association; inducted into the MEAC Hall of Fame; married Hattie Pearl White, 1959; son of Cornelius and Annie Lou Dial Hunter.
