The Sparta Land Office was created by an act of 1820 May 11 to be to located at Conecuh County Courthouse. This land was previously administered by the Cahaba Land Office and includes the current Ala. counties or portions of the counties of Escambia, Covington, Geneva, Houston, Henry, Dale, Coffee, Pike, Barbour, Monroe, and Conecuh. The Sparta Land Office opened on 1822 Aug. 1. The boundaries were slightly redrawn and the office moved to Elba on 1854 Apr. 1. The Elba Land Office was closed and its records moved to Montgomery on 1867 Apr. 11.
