The papers in this collection relate to several members of the du Pont family of Wilmington, Delaware. The du Ponts, father Pierre Samuel with his sons Eleuthère Irènée and Victor Marie, the sons' wives, and their children, emigrated from France to the United States, arriving on January 1, 1800. They soon settled in Wilmington, where E.I. started a gunpowder manufactory and Victor Marie began a textile mill. The papers are from descendants of both men, and include Victorine Elizabeth du Pont Bauduy, Eleuthera du Pont Smith, Evaline Gabrielle du Pont Bidermann, General Henry du Pont, Charles Irenee du Pont and his wife Ann Ridgely.
