Massachusetts. Office of Federal State Relations

The Office of Federal State Relations coordinates relations among the governor, the fedral govenment, and other states with staff located in Boston, and Washington, D.C. Its responsibilities include reporting on the progress of federal legislation affecting the Massachusetts, lobbying for legislation favorable to Massachusetts, and preparing agendas and briefing materials for the governor prior to attendance at national and regional governors' conferences.

In 1963 these functions were held by a coordinator of intergovernmental relations in the Executive office for Administration and Finance's whose unit may have been called the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs. From 1974 onward the unit has been administered by the lieutenant governor's office, and has been known variously as the governor's office of Federal Relations, Governor's office of Federal State Relations, office of Federal Relations, and Office of Federal State Relations. Its Washington office is currently called the Massachusetts Office of Federal State Relations.

The Office of Fedral Local Relations was organized as part of the broader office from about 1975 to 1986 to serve as a liaison between municipalities and federal funding agencies.
