Infantry officer born 1867; attended West Point in 1887. Upon graduation was with 16th Infantry at Fort Douglas. Participated in battles at Santiago de Cuba and San Juan Hill during War of 1898. Sent to Manila in 1899 and was in Philippines during the insurrection until 1901 when transferred as captain to 14th Infantry (1902). Sent to Philippines (1903); returned to Vancouver Barracks (1906). In 1907 became a professor of military science at U. of Louisiana. Attended School of the Line in 1914. Was a major with 1st Infantry in Hawaii (1915-1917). Became lt. colonel and colonel in 1917 and commanded 13th Infantry (1917-18). After duty in France (1919) had staff work in D.C. (1919-22). As part of Historical Section of Army War College was on tour in Germany (1922-25). Worked with reserves in Philadelphia (1925-30). Retired in 1930. Taught at Valley Forge Military Academy from 1943-49.
