Biography
Richard Casper Rudolph was born on May 21, 1909 in San Francisco, CA; BS (1932), AM (1936), and Ph.D (1942), UC Berkeley; research associate and instructor of Chinese, University of Chicago, 1937-40; research associate, Oriental languages, UC Berkeley, 1942-43; assistant professor of Chinese and head of Chinese language section, US Department of the Navy Language School, University of Colorado, 1943-45; assistant professor of Chinese studies (1945-46), University of Toronto; associate professor of Chinese and acting director of the school of Chinese studies (1946-47), associate professor (1947-52), professor (1952-80), and, in 1980, emeritus professor of Oriental languages, UCLA; publications include Dynastic booty : an altered Chinese bronze (1948), Chinese moveable type printing in the eighteenth century (1954), and Illustrated botanical works in China and Japan (1966). Richard Rudolph died on April 9, 2003.
