Sir William Luscombe Munday (1865-1952), lawyer, Vice-President, later Deputy President, of the University College of the South West, was the son of Richard and Susan Munday. He was born in 1865 and educated at Kelly College, Tavistock. He qualified as a solicitor in 1887, and was from 1898 (to 1930) a member of Plymouth Town Council, becoming an alderman in 1911. He became Vice-President of the University College of the South West in 1922, and was Deputy President from 1939 to 1948. He published two lectures, one on Dante, the other on Reynolds, was President of the Plymouth Law Society (1926-27), President of the Plymouth Institution (1925-26), and Chairman of the Sutton Division (Plymouth) Conservative Association 1922-44.
