Lathrop earned a B.S. in August 1933. He lived and taught classes in Bellaire (Mich.) and was married with at least one son. During the Depression, he served as the Educational Advisor for a number of Michigan Civilian Conservation Corps camps, including: Camp Axin in Cadillac, Camp Sable River in Peacock, Camp Luzerne in Luzerne, Camp Hartwick Pines in Grayling, Camp Woverine in Clarion, Camp Eldorado in Roscommon, Camp Vanderbilt in Vanderbilt, Camp Sturgeon River in Foster City, Camp Black Lake in Rogers City, at Camp Custer, Mich., and in the Hoxeyville and Wellston areas.
