Sophia, Queen of Greece

Sophia (1870-1932), eldest daughter of Emperor Frederick of Germany, married Constantine, Duke of Sparta in 1889. He became King in 1913; abdicated in 1917 in favour of his second son Alexander; returned as King on Alexander's death, 1920; abdicated in favour of his eldest son George, 1922; and died, 1923. Their eldest daughter married Prince Carol, later King of Romania. Queen Sophia lived at the end of her life in Florence, where she came into contact with many British people.
