Cunningham, Russell M. (Russell McWhorter), 1855-1921.
Cunningham was born 1855 Aug. 25 to Moses W. and Nancy Caroline (Russell) Cunningham at Mt. Hope, Lawrence Co., Ala.
He married Sue L. Moore on 1876 Aug. 13. After his first wife died, he married Annice Taylor in Birmingham. In 1878 he entered Bellevue Hospital Medical College in New York City. He served as Ala. Prison Physician at Wetumpka beginning 1881, and in 1885 became physician and surgeon for the Tennessee Coal, Iron, and Railroad Company.
He represented Franklin Co. in the Ala. Legislature, 1880-1881; the same county in the Ala. Senate, 1896-1900; was a delegate to the Ala. Constitutional Convention, 1901; was Lt. Gov., 1903-1907; and Acting Gov. for a year, 1904-1905.
He published widely as a physician, was a Democrat and Mason. He married Annice Taylor of Birmingham, ca.1910. He and his first wife had one child, Modie E. He and his second wife had two children, Russell M. and Benjamin Taylor.
He died 1921 June 6 in Birmingham.
