Carson, Enoch Terry, 1822-1899

Enoch Terry Carson (1822-1899) was a prolific book collector, whose Shakesperiana collection was donated to the University of Cincinnati by William Proctor. A public servant who held both local and state offices, Carson was surveyor of the Port of Cincinnati under Lincoln. He was also a Mason, and became Grand Commander of the Knight Templar of Ohio in 1871. He served as Lieutenant Grand Commander of the Northern Supreme Council of the Scottish Rite, Thirty Third Degree. He died in February of 1899 in Cincinnati at age 77.
