Peterson, Gunnar A. (Gunnar Arthur), 1915-
Variant namesOpen Lands Project, later Openlands Project, has sought to preserve areas of natural beauty around Chicago that were threatened by urban growth. OPL originally functioned as a committee of the Welfare Council of Metropolitan Chicago but became an independent non-profit organization in 1968. Gunnar Peterson was the Executive Director of OLP for 12 years and led a team of activists and influential Chicagoans in saving some of the natural areas around Chicago including Goose Lake Prairie, Illinois Prairie Path, Illinois and Michigan Canal, and Kennicott Grove.
