Edward Glassner was born in Chicago, Ill., in 1865, to German immigrants. The family homesteaded in Kansas in the 1870s. In 1896 he moved to Butte, Montana, where he worked for several years. In the early 1900s he became a locating and construction engineer for the Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Paul Railway Company. He was based in Harlowton, Mont., but worked all over central and eastern Montana, helping build the railroad and surveying such towns as Huntley and Roundup.
