The Iowa City Golden K Kiwanis club was formed in 1984 by a group of retired Iowa City men. The club was chartered by the Iowa-Nebraska District of Kiwanis Internatinonal and met weekly. They helped local charities, sponsored youth league sports teams, and promoted educational achievement. One of their most visible services was serving coffee and snacks to travellers at highway rest stops. As members died the club membership shrank and it disbanded in 1999.
