Allen Yeary was born October 4, 1914 in Clark County, KY. He enlisted in 1942 and eventually graduated Officer Candidate School as a Lieutenant in the 431st Engineer Dump Truck Company of the 1394th Engineer Construction Battalion. Yeary served in the Pacific Theater, including the Russell Islands, Guadalcanal, and the Philippines. He was honorably discharged as a Captain in 1946. After the war, Yeary served as chairman of Taggart Shoe, Inc. and chairman of the board of the Portsmouth (Ohio) Banking Company, among other pursuits. He married Catharine Taggart in 1942. Their only child, John T. Yeary, is the donor of this collection. Allen Yeary died October 7, 1992 and was buried at Portsmouth's Greenlawn Cemetery with military rites by the James Dickey American Legion Post.
