The Right Reverend Sir Paul Alfred Reeves is the former Archbishop of New Zealand and Governor-General of New Zealand. Born in Wellington of Maori and European descent, he was educated at Victoria University and St. John's Theological College, and, after his ordination, at Oxford University. He held several ecclesiastical and educational positions in New Zealand, culminating in his appointment as Primate and Archbishop of New Zealand in 1980. He resigned this position in 1985 to become Governor-General of New Zealand, the first cleric and the first person of Maori descent to hold the office. He has received numerous honors and held various positions since his term of office ended.
