International Union of Operating Engineers. Local 148 (Keokuk, Iowa)
IUOE Local 148 began organizing at the Union Electric Company in St. Louis, Missouri in 1940 and in 1941 the local was chartered. Local 148 organized workers at Foote Mineral in Keokuk in 1954. By the 1980s, after merging with five IUOE locals in Illinois, Local 148 represented workers in Illinois, Missouri, and Iowa. Workers at Foote Mineral struck from May to November 1986. In November 1986 Foote Mineral filed for a decertification election with the NLRB. The vote was scheduled for May 1987.
