George Trapp was born in Falkirk, on the 30th December 1906 . His father, Peter, was an engineer. He was educated at Falkirk High School. He studied at the University of Glasgow from 1925-1934, graduating with an MA, a BSc and a PhD. In his first year at university he studied French, Mathematics and Natural Philiosophy. In 1926-1927 he studied English, Geography, Natural Philosophy. In his third year he studied Logic and Mathematics, Maths and Botany. He then took classes in Political Economy, Maths and Botany. He received an M.A. Ordinary in 1929 . In his fifth year he took classes in Botany and in 1930 he received a second class BS.c with honours in Botany. In 1930-31 he studied Political Economy and Physiological Chemistry. He received his PhD from the Faculty of Science in 1934 , his thesis was entitled "(a) A Disease of Aucuba Japonica Thunb. (b) A Study of the Foliar Endodermis in the Plantaginaceae." During his time at Glasgow University he also received a second class certificate for Botany (1927-1928) and a distinction in Political Economy (1928-1929). He was elected by the university as exhibitioner to the British Association for the Advancement of Science and awarded the Dobbie Smith gold medal.

George received a Dip.Ed (Edin) from Moray House College of Education in 1932 and in 1934 he was appointed Assistant Science Master at Falkirk High School. In 1937 he moved to Edinburgh to initiate the introduction of Biology to the science curriculum at George Watson's Boys' College. In 1940 he received a B.Com from the University of Edinburgh and was awarded the Darling Scholarship. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1941 . In 1943 he was elected a Fellow of the Linnean Society of London and appointed as the Assistant Director of Education for Aberdeenshire. He became Rector of the Gordon Schools in Huntly in 1948 and received a LLB from the University of Edinburgh in 1969 . In the General Council Registers he was listed as a teacher and later as a biologist. George Trapp died 1996 .
