Gibson, Andrew, 1922-

Andrew E. Gibson was born on February 19, 1922 and graduated from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 1943. He was CO of the Liberty Ship SS Leonidas Merritt from 1944 to 1946. He graduated from Brown University in 1951, received an MBA from New York University in 1979 and a Ph.D. from the University of Wales, Cardiff in 1994. He served as Maritime Administrator and Under Secretary of Commerce for Maritime Affairs, 1969-1972. Gibson headed a number of shipping companies both before and after leaving government service. He held the Emory Land Chair in Maritime Affairs at the Naval War College, 1988-1992.
