Hide Profile

Louisiana State University's Fall Fest, an annual event begun in 1994, was planned by the Rekindle the Spirit Steering Committee in an attempt to reenergize the morale and positive feelings that people held for the university. It is held every Fall semester in the Quadrangle between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm on a Friday before a home football game and includes refreshments; information tables on campus organizations; and live entertainment by the Golden Band from Tigerland, the LSU Cheerleaders, and others. The food, money, and other items needed to produce Fall Fest are donated by area businesses and individuals.

Louisiana State University began as the Seminary of Learning of the State of Louisiana in 1860 and later that year became the Louisiana Seminary of Learning and Military Academy. A superintendent was in charge of academic, financial, and administrative matters for the Seminary and was subordinate to the Board of Supervisors. The Seminary became Louisiana State University in 1870 and following the merger of LSU with the Louisiana Agricultural and Mechanical College in 1877, forming Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College, the title of superintendent was changed to president. The LSU System was established in 1962 and the president oversaw the growing number of campuses while still remaining in charge of the main campus in Baton Rouge until 1965.

The Office of the Chancellor was established in 1965 to oversee the main campus in Baton Rouge and is subordinate to the system president. Some of the chancellor's duties are to maintain relationships with faculty, staff, students, and alumni and work with community leaders such as government officials, industrialists, educators, and other stakeholders in the University. Chancellors are in charge of all campuses in the LSU System, which consists of nine campuses in five cities: Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College, LSU Agricultural Center, Pennington Biomedical Research Center, Paul M. Hebert Law Center (all in Baton Rouge), LSU Eunice, LSU Shreveport, LSU Alexandria, LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, and LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. The system also administers seven public hospitals through its Health Care Services Division.
