The first meeting of the Clemson Group of the South Carolina Chapter of the Sierra Club was held June 2, 1981. The goal of the group was to help maintain the quality of life by promoting an awareness and an appreciation of the natural environment and the need to use our resources wisely. The group changed its name to "Foothills Group" in 1983 to reflect the representation of group members for a larger area of South Carolina.
