In 1946 Lloyd Eshbach, an advertising copywriter for Glidden Paint Co., founded Fantasy Press along with fellow employees, A.J. Donnell and Lyman Houck. Fantasy Press, one of America's first specialty science fiction presses, published over 40 novels during its eleven years of operation, including works by E.E. Smith, John W. Campbell, and Jack Williamson. In 1958 the business was sold to Gnome Press.
