This collection consists of research materials gathered by Matthew Kreitzer while working on his 1993 M.A. thesis, "Willie Ottogary: Northwestern Shoshone Journalist, 1906-1929." Willie Ottogary (18??-1929) was a chief of the Shoshone tribe who lived in Washakie, Utah (now in the area of Box Elder County, Utah). Willie was baptized into the LDS Church in 1875. He was ordained a Seventy (a church administrative position) in 1907. He also served a two month stake mission to the Shoshone people in 1913. Willie wrote a weekly column for twenty years in Logan's newspaper The Journal which discussed life, agriculture, the Native American Indian, the LDS Church and other similar topics.
