The Florida Development Commission was created in 1955 (Ch. 29788, Laws), assuming the duties of the Florida State Improvement Commission and the Florida Advertising Commission. The Commission promoted tourism and the sale of Florida products; encouraged the employment of Florida citizens; worked to improve trade with other states and countries; provided business assistance; promoted economic development; and was responsible for the control of state revenue bonds. In 1969, the Florida Development Commission became the Division of Commercial Development under the Dept. of Commerce, and the control of state revenue bonds passed to the Division of Bond Finance, Dept. of General Services (Ch. 69-106, Laws).
