Variant namesThe Geology Department began at the University of Wyoming in 1887 and its summer science camp in 1925. In 1933 the State Geologist position was added to the Geology department and the first Ph. D. graduated from the department in 1953. The department continues to work with the state in order to help find newer more efficient means to produce its natural resources.
