From 1909 until about 1912 Chicago social worker Gudrun S. Rom was a caseworker with United Charities. She then worked for the Bureau of Public Welfare, the Juvenile Protective Association, and the Juvenile Court before returning to United Charities in 1918 to work in the Near North Side district. In 1933, she became head of the agency's strockyards district office. Rom retired in 1949 and in 1957 she compiled a history of the United Charities organization.
