Stojan J. Maras, Jr., was born July 24, 1927 at the Big Ox Mine outside of Marysville, Montana to Stojan J. Maras and Thirza Crawford Maras. John received his GED and spent two years working on an electrical engineering degree before enlisting in the United States Army Air Corps. He served in the military 1945-1948 stationed at various locations including Guam, Japan, Philippines, Arizona, Texas, and Colorado. He was part of the 8th Air Force, 19th Maintenance Squadron, and the 20th Air Force. He Married Bonita Quenzer in 1949 ahd they had three children. John and Bonita were active in Helena's Horse Racing Association and were later inducted into the Hall of Fame Racing Association.
