Enlisted at age 23 in Buffalo, 20 Sept. 1861, to serve two years. Mustered in as private, Co. F, 21st New York Infantry; mustered out with the company, 18 May 1863. Fought in the second battle of Bull Run, South Mountain, and Antietam; commended for bravery in every engagement.
