Alston, William Algernon, 1830-1867.
Samuel Wylie Crawford was a native of Franklin County, Pa.; Crawford studied medicine, and in 1851 became an assistant surgeon in the U. S. army. He served in various forts in the southwest, principally in Texas, until 1860 when he was stationed in Charleston, S.C., at Fort Moultrie and later at Fort Sumter; Crawford commanded a battery during the bombardment. of Fort Sumter, 12 Apr. 1861.
