Hubert Pierre Herrick (1827-1857) and his wife Julia Bushnell Herrick, were posted to the Gaboon Mission by the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. The Herricks served as missionaries to the Nengenenge outpost of the Gaboon Mission until the middle of 1855 when both had failures of health and were forced to return to the United States. In August 1857, Hubert returned to the Gaboon Mission, without Julia, who was still convalescing. Several months later, on December 20, 1857, Hubert Herrick died in the field at Nengenenge, West Africa of a fever.
