Thomas A. Phillips and his wife Dorsia lived in Bristol, Virginia, in the early 20th century. Their sons, Thomas A., Jr., and Charles E., served as pilots in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II. Both became lieutenants. Thomas A. Phillips, Jr., was stationed at Bainbridge Army Airfield in Bainbridge, Georgia, in the summer of 1944. Charles E. Phillips was stationed at Avon Park, Florida, in May 1945, and Keesler Field, Mississippi, in May 1946.
