Isaac R. Butts and Co., Boston printing firm, operating as Isaac R. Butts and Co., Isaac R. Butts & Co., I.R. Butts and Co., and Butts & Co., in the mid-nineteenth century; Isaac Ridler Butts (1795-1882), principal. The firm printed novels, poetry, almanacs, catalogs, tracts, sermons, school books, hymnals, and serials for various publishers, as well as producing circulars, blank forms, and other documents typical of a book and job printer. One of the company's most notable accomplishments was the printing of Nathaniel Bowditch's four-volume annotated translation of Pierre Simon Laplace's Traite de mécanique céleste (Boston: Hillard, Gray, Little, and Wilkins, 1829-39).
