Council of Trent
The Council of Trent, the nineteenth ecumenical council, opened on 13 December 1545, and lasted until 4 December 1563. It sought to establish the definitive doctrines of the Catholic Church, in response to the Protestant heresies, and to remove abuses in the Church.
