The MacKay family of Caledonia, New York consisted of brothers Alexander, Edward, George, Robert and sister Jennet, who married Joslyn Hutchinson. Alexander and George MacKay worked as surveyors in Florida.
Edward MacKay was a sales clerk at a store in Mobile, Alabama, and Robert MacKay was a doctor who practiced in Louisiana. Dr. MacKay worked on several plantations such as Thibadeauville, Houma and Bayou Ramos. Joslyn Hutchinson was involved in a business venture in Havanna, Cuba, where he planned to construct a mill. He was blocked from doing so by American filibusters invading Cuba.
