Church of Christ organized in 1724; known by this name until 1825 when the town ceased to act as an ecclesiastical parish; on March 14, 1825 the First Congregational Society was formed; in 1834 differences arose between the Trinitarians and Unitarians and a new religious society was formed under the name: Evangelical Society; First Congregational Society continued to exist, becoming the nucleus for the Unitarians (in 1850 this was reconstituted as First Congregational Church and later renamed First Congregational Unitarian Society); in 1888 Evangelical Society incorporated as Evangelical Church of Westborough (its legal name today); in 1998 commonly known as Evangelical Congregational Church, UCC, of Westborough.
