University Place was surveyed by the Augustana Lutheran Church and assigned as a field of mission in April of 1957 to Rev. Waldo C. Lindberg. The first service was held September 21, 1958 with 213 in attendance. On December 7, 1958 the congregaton was organized with 117 adults and 81 children.
The new congregation’s temporary home was at the Masonic Lodge on Grandview while a building site and plans could be approved. Groundbreaking occurred on September 20, 1959, and dedication Sunday was one year later, September 25, 1960.
In April of 1965 groundbreaking for the 5400 square foot second unit took place, with dedication following on October 31, 1965. The congregation voted to sell the parsonage in the fall of 1980. The mortgage was paid in July of 1981.
