The Supervisory and Confidential Council at Iowa State University was created in 1972 as the Staff Council. The Council was formed to listen to the concerns of the non-organized clerical employees and to act as liaison between the employees and the administration. It was renamed in 1981, and currently applies to merit employees who supervise other merit employees and are not covered under collective bargaining agreements. The Council is made up of nine elected voting members (serving for three year terms) and two ex-officio members from Human Resources and the Provost Office.
