Art Kieffer received a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts degree from Ohio University in 1985 and 1987 respectively. He then moved to Kent State University to pursue a Ph.D. in Geography. As a teaching fellow in Geography, he received the Outstanding Graduate Student Teaching Award from the Graduate Student Senate in 1990. A memorial service was held on the twentieth anniversary of the May 4, 1970, shootings at Kent State University and Mr. Kieffer offered one extra credit point to his students if they would attend the service and write a brief report about their experience. This collection contains 87 responses from that class. The collection also contains a brief explanation of the assignment by Mr. Kieffer and a poem written by him at the memorial service.
