Monte Burr McLaws (1934-1996) was an American historian, teacher, and genealogist.

Monte Burr McLaws was born November 20, 1934, in Los Angeles, California to Franklin J. and Marian Pace McLaws. He grew up in Holbrook, Mesa, and Tempe, Arizona. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1955 to 1957 in the Uruguay-Paraguay Mission, spending his last six months in Peru. He graduated from Arizona State University with bachelor's and master's degrees, and received a Ph.D. in history from the University of Missouri in 1970. He started his career teaching high school in Pima, Arizona, in 1963, and later took a position as professor of history at Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska in 1968. In 1976 he began working for the Genealogical Society of Utah, where he served as a records specialist in field operations in India, Sri Lanka, Africa and the Middle East until 1993. McLaws often lectured at the BYU Salt Lake Center and at Education Week on personal and family history, and also wrote historical and religious works. He married Emily Church in the Arizona Temple in 1962, and together they have six children.
