Hide Profile

The museum is dedicated to the history of Belgian printing and particularly the 16th century printer Christophe Plantin whose business was continued by his descendants, including his son-in-law Jan Moretus. In 1876 Edouard Moretus sold the press and all its equipment to the city of Antwerp. A year later, in 1877, one could visit the print shop and adjoining house. The museum has two of the oldest printing presses in the world, as well as 90 complete sets of lead characters. It also contains a particularly rich library.
